Billie Stone Fogarty, MEd, a professional genealogist and family historian, is a sixth-generation Oklahoman. Her love of Oklahoma history runs deep, with eighteen ancestors who were in Oklahoma before statehood. She holds lifetime memberships in four distinctly Oklahoma organizations: the Oklahoma Historical Society (OHS), the Oklahoma Genealogical Society (OGS), First Families of the Twin Territories, and the 1889ers Society. She has served Oklahoma on the OHS Board of Directors and on its Research, Publications, and Executive Committees; the OGS as president and other offices; and the 1889ers Society as president and other offices. She has lectured extensively in Oklahoma and throughout the country about researching family history. She has served the extended genealogical community as president of two international organizations: the Genealogical Speakers Guild and the Association of Professional Genealogists, the world’s largest organization of professional genealogists with members in 43 countries at the time she was president.
In 2020, she was awarded the Graham T. Smallwood Award for personal commitment and outstanding service to the Association of Professional Genealogists. Growing up in historic Guthrie, she has held memberships in National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, National Society Colonial Dames XVII Century, Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War, National Society United States Daughters of 1812, and several state and local organizations designed to enhance and encourage the study of the history of our state and nation.
