Museum of Horseshoeing Inc. Awarded Oklahoma Heritage Preservation Grant
OKLAHOMA CITY — The Oklahoma Historical Society is proud to announce that the Museum of Horseshoeing Inc. has been awarded a grant through the Oklahoma Heritage Preservation Grant Program.
"Grants like this allow local organizations to highlight the unique history and stories of southwest Oklahoma City that might not otherwise be told," said Sen. Michael Brooks, Oklahoma City. "I am delighted that the Museum of Horseshoeing has received this grant to better interpret the history of this unique trade."
"Congratulations to the Museum of Horseshoeing on receiving this funding," said Rep. José Cruz, Oklahoma City. "Located in Stockyards City, this organization is helping to preserve the story of the horse world's oldest trade. These funds coming into the district will allow for a more robust interpretation of this story and the larger story of Oklahoma's involvement and impact on the American West."
The Museum of Horseshoeing Inc. has been awarded $20,000 to fund a museum tour experience that will allow for self-guided tours for all guests. As part of this plan, the museum will create physical signage and descriptions of exhibits throughout the space. Additionally, it will create a digital tour experience to supplement the information provided on the physical signage.
"This grant means great deal for our organization. With it, we will be able to offer a significantly improved museum tour experience for all guests," said Samantha Liles Frank, president of the Museum of Horseshoeing Inc. "Our new signage and digital tour capabilities will provide a richer understanding of our exhibits, particularly for those unfamiliar with the horseshoeing industry. We are thankful for the opportunity to put this grant to use for the OKC and Stockyards City communities!"
A total of just over $460,000 in grant funds will be distributed, with projects ranging from collections care and exhibit development to strategic planning and educational programming. "This is only the second year for this grant program. As organizations wrap up their grant projects from last year and as we see the quality of the applications that came in for this grant cycle, it is clear that there is a strong need for this type of grant program," said Nicole Harvey, OHS grants administrator.
The Oklahoma Heritage Preservation Grant Program is a grants-in-aid program offered by the Oklahoma Historical Society with a goal of encouraging the collection, preservation and sharing of Oklahoma history at the grassroots level in all parts of the state. Open to tribal and municipal governments and not-for-profit historical organizations located in Oklahoma and registered with the Oklahoma secretary of state, this grants program offers funding ranging from $1,000 to $20,000 for projects focused on collections, exhibits and programming.
