The Military History Center Awarded Oklahoma Heritage Preservation Grant
OKLAHOMA CITY — The Oklahoma Historical Society is proud to announce that the Military History Center has been awarded a grant through the Oklahoma Heritage Preservation Grant Program.
The Military History Center has been awarded $9,013 to fund a project that will provide an audio device for visitors to highlight specific exhibits in the museum. It will allow for visitors to have a more interpretive experience without relying on docent availability.
"The Military History Center is pleased to accept the grant from the Oklahoma Historical Society," said retired Brig. Gen. Thomas Mancino, president of the board. "This grant will allow us to enhance the experience for visitors to the museum by providing them with a method to download an audio description of selected items onto their cell phones. Guests taking an unguided tour will have a method to receive a professional audio description of special artifacts."
A total of just over $460,000 in grant funds will be distributed, with projects ranging from collections care and exhibit development to strategic planning and educational programming. "This is only the second year for this grant program. As organizations wrap up their grant projects from last year and as we see the quality of the applications that came in for this grant cycle, it is clear that there is a strong need for this type of grant program," said Nicole Harvey, OHS grants administrator.
