Midwest City High School Museum, Inc. Awarded Oklahoma Heritage Preservation Grant

OKLAHOMA CITY — The Oklahoma Historical Society (OHS) is proud to announce that the Midwest City High School Museum, Inc. has been awarded a grant through the Oklahoma Heritage Preservation Grant Program.

“I am thrilled to hear the Midwest City High School Museum is receiving a grant to help fund two display cases to showcase documents and images of 80 years of graduating classes in preparation of the school’s 80th anniversary in 2024,” said Sen. Brenda Stanley, Midwest City. “I have visited the museum several times, and it is beautifully done. I appreciate all of the wonderful Midwest City High School patrons for this ‘Shining Star’ in Senate District 42.”

Midwest City High School Museum, Inc. received $9,965 for a project titled “Wall Mounted Display Systems and Digitization of Collections,” which will help fund two display cases to showcase documents and images of 80 years of graduating classes in preparation of the celebration of the school’s 80th anniversary in 2024.

“Thanks to this grant, we will now be able to preserve and present archival materials and artifacts for each individual class of Bombers from 1944 into perpetuity,” said Bob Osmond, chairman of Midwest City High School Museum, Inc. “This will also allow us to digitize our entire collection of yearbooks, school newspapers and several historical photographs and articles of importance to the history of Midwest City High School dating back to its beginning in 1943. This will also allow current and former Bombers to research their history, so their heritage may be preserved forever.”

The OHS will distribute over $575,000 in grant funds, with projects ranging from collections care and strategic planning to exhibit development and educational programming.

“These grant funds continue to empower local communities to collect, preserve and share their history for future generations of Oklahomans with over 150 projects funded to date,” said Nicole Harvey, director of strategic initiatives and grants administrator for the OHS.
