Oklahoma Historical Society to Highlight Importance of Consulate Offices for National Hispanic Heritage Month
OKLAHOMA CITY —September 15 to October 15 is National Hispanic Heritage Month. To celebrate the significant contributions of Hispanics in Oklahoma, the Oklahoma Historical Society Multicultural Office organized “Presente in Oklahoma!” A lunch-and-learn featuring a panel discussion focusing on the consulate services and the international relations between Latin America and Oklahoma. It will take place at the Oklahoma History Center on Tuesday, September 26, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
This year’s event will focus on consulate offices’ contributions to the development of the Hispanic community in the state. Representatives from Latin America in Oklahoma will share the importance of their multiple services, their relation to the immigration process, and the multilateral positive impacts of international cooperation while promoting government, economic, social, cultural, and tourism relations with Oklahomans.
Cinthya Allen, diversity, equity and inclusion strategist at Arvest Bank, will moderate the panel. Enrique Villar-Gambetta, honorary consul of Peru in Oklahoma and chair of the Oklahoma Governor’s International Team, and Edurne Pineda, general consul of Mexico in Oklahoma, will join the discussion. Villar-Gambetta has an extensive list of foreign official missions, including developing a successful agreement between Sister Cities International in Edmond, Oklahoma, and Peru, as well as educational and commercial international relations. Pineda opened the new Consulate of Mexico in Oklahoma City earlier this year and will provide insights about the consular services and assistance to the growing Mexican community and the larger community interested in multilateral collaborations.
The event is free and open to the public, but registration is required. Attendees can purchase a lunch box prepared by Hidalgo’s when registering for the event. Lunch orders must be placed before Thursday, September 21, at 11:59 p.m. The options include fajitas (beef, chicken or vegetarian) or the famous Peruvian lomo saltado for $15 plus processing fees.
