Drummond Home to Feature Antique Handkerchiefs Exhibit in August

HOMINY, Okla. — The Fred and Addie Drummond Home will have antique handkerchiefs displayed in the historic home throughout August.

The special collection of dainty squares of fabric will feature a variety of cheerful designs. In the late 1800s, women often carried a handkerchief to dab their nose and dry a tear. Before the mass production of disposable facial tissues after the Spanish Flu of 1918, handkerchiefs were commonly carried by men and women. Women of the 19th century, like Adeline Drummond, elevated handkerchiefs through the skill of embroidery and tatting, adding monograms and designs.

The exhibit will remain open through Saturday, August 31. It is included with paid admission.

The Fred and Addie Drummond Home is located at 305 N. Price Ave. in Hominy. It is open Wednesday through Saturday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday from 1-5 p.m. Call 918-352-5583 for more information.
