Learn About History and Meaning of Gravestone Symbols in Workshop at The Chisholm

KINGFISHER, Okla. — A workshop on Saturday, October 5, from 1-3 p.m. will focus on the history and meaning of gravestone symbols. The event will take place at The Chisholm and the Kingfisher Cemetery.

“Carved in Stone” will look at the language of symbols and how it has evolved. Symbols can teach us about social memberships, occupations, hobbies, beliefs and more. Workshop attendees will explore gravestone iconography and meanings at The Chisholm before moving to the Kingfisher Cemetery to identify and explore symbols.

The cost for the workshop is $15 per person. It is designed for adults or teens with a guardian. Call the museum at 405-375-5176 to register. The class is limited to 20 people, and payment must be received to secure your spot.

The Chisholm is located at 605 Zellers Ave. in Kingfisher. The Kingfisher Cemetery is about 1.5 miles northwest of the museum along Highway 3.
