Community Invited to Cinnamon Roll Social at Fort Towson Historic Site

FORT TOWSON, Okla. — The Fort Towson Historic Site will host a Cinnamon Roll Social on Saturday, September 28, from 10 a.m.-noon. The event is free, and everyone is invited.

Guests will enjoy cinnamon rolls cooked on-site in cast iron Dutch ovens under the cooling shade of walnut trees. The sutler store will provide a backdrop that brings to mind a time when soldiers worked, drilled and received their sustenance on the same piece of ground. Guests will be invited to tour the museum, explore the grounds and learn about the significant impact of the fort.

The event will include a presentation by Correy Twilley. Twilley is a curator at the U.S. Army Air Defense Artillery Training Support Facility at Fort Sill and is the Army’s resident subject matter expert on U.S. Army food and ration development from the 1770s to today. He is a graduate of Norwich University and Rogers State University.

For more information, call 580-873-2634 or email fttowson@history.ok.gov. The Fort Towson Historic Site is located at 896 N. 4375 Rd. in Fort Towson.
