Gingerbread Bake Day Planned at Fort Gibson Historic Site

FORT GIBSON, Okla. — Fort Gibson Historic Site staff will again fire up the oven for a gingerbread bake day. This year’s event will take place in the commissary on Saturday, December 21, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. or until supplies run out.

Gingerbread people will be baked in the 1860s military bake oven, and visitors can decorate with 19th-century candies. Items for decorations include frosting, cherry licorice laces, spice drops and candy wafers. The cookies are $5 each. All supplies in the decoration station are included with the purchase of a cookie. The cookies and decorating supplies can also be purchased as a kit to take home, but frosting is not included. The event is first come, first served. Gingerbread cookies will come out of the oven every 30 minutes.

Admission to the event and site will be free on bake day, and attendees are encouraged to explore the site and its new visitor center before and after decorating a cookie.

For more information, please call 918-478-4088. The Fort Gibson Historic Site visitor center is located at 803 N. Garrison Ave., and the commissary is located at 907 N. Garrison Ave.
