Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center Starting Three-Part Lecture Series
ENID, Okla. — A three-part series at the Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center (CSRHC) in Enid called “A.M. with the Archivist” begins on Saturday, January 11. Each session will take place from 10-11 a.m. in the museum’s Research Center.
In the first session, “Imperialism the 1890s,” CSRHC archivist Aaron Preston will discuss the national shift in American ideology in 1890 while examining how these greater notions affected people in the Cherokee Outlet.
On Saturday, January 25, Preston will host the second part of the lecture series with a presentation titled “The Progressive Era: 1900-1929.” The presentation will examine President Theodore Roosevelt’s policies and national transformations during this time and how these shifts were borne out in the Cherokee Outlet.
The final session of this three-part series will take place on Saturday, February 8. The title is “The Great Depression in the Cherokee Outlet.” Preston will discuss how the Cherokee Outlet suffered and grew during the worldwide economic downturn. The research is drawn heavily from oral histories of people who lived through it.
