Learn How to Research Your Ancestors Using the Dawes Rolls in Free Webinar
OKLAHOMA CITY — The State Historic Preservation Office will host a free webinar on Wednesday, February 19, at noon for people to learn more about the Dawes Rolls and how to use them to find your ancestors. Laura Martin, deputy director of the Oklahoma Historical Society Research Division, will be the presenter.
Enrollment for the Dawes Rolls started in 1898 and closed in 1907, though some individuals were added between 1912 and 1914. In general, the Dawes Rolls list individuals who lived with their nation in Indian Territory, chose to apply and were approved by the Dawes Commission. The Dawes Rolls can be used to trace your ancestry to one of the Five Tribes, which include Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Muscogee (Creek) and Seminole.
