Keys Public Schools Teacher to Receive Award From Oklahoma Historical Society

OKLAHOMA CITY — Keys Public Schools teacher Lisa Burton will receive the William D. Pennington Award at the Oklahoma Historical Society’s annual awards banquet on Thursday, March 20, at 6 p.m. at the Oklahoma History Center in Oklahoma City. Burton will receive $500 and a plaque of recognition.

Burton was nominated by Steven Goss, high school principal for Keys Public Schools. Goss said Burton fosters “an environment where all perspectives are valued.” He said she brings history to life, which allows her students to foster “a deep connection to the material.” Goss ended the nomination by saying Burton’s “dedication and multifaceted contributions make her an invaluable asset to her students and community.”

The William D. Pennington Award is presented to an outstanding social studies teacher who demonstrates effective teaching by any measure of excellence.

Tickets to the Oklahoma Historical Society Awards Banquet can be purchased online. Guests are asked to RSVP by Monday, March 10. Dr. AJ Griffin will be the keynote speaker. Griffin spent six years in the Oklahoma State Senate and is now the CEO of the Potts Family Foundation.
