Oklahoma History Center to Offer Victorian Hat Making Class
OKLAHOMA CITY — The Oklahoma History Center will host a day of fun and hat making on Saturday, February 11, from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Participants will learn the history of Edwardian milliners and create their own hat for Valentine's Day. They will work one on one with assistance to complete the project during the class. The cost for the class is $50 and includes all supplies, lunch and museum admission.
The course instructor is Barbara Byrd, who has been teaching hat making for more than 10 years. After taking a hat making class, she became very busy learning the art and teaching it to others. Byrd also volunteers at the Oklahoma History Center as a gallery host and historic reenactor and contributes more than 200 hours each year to the institution.
The Oklahoma History Center is a division of the Oklahoma Historical Society and is an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution, National Archives and is an accredited member of the American Alliance of Museums. The mission of the Oklahoma Historical Society is to collect, preserve and share the history and culture of the state of Oklahoma and its people.
