Museum of the Western Prairie Hosts "Oklahoma Pride: The Next 50 Years of Oklahoma Art" Exhibit
ALTUS, Okla. — During the months of August, September and October, the Museum of the Western Prairie in Altus is hosting “Oklahoma Pride: The Next 50 Years of Oklahoma Art,” an exhibit on loan from the Melton Art Reference Library in Oklahoma City.
This art exhibition showcases the work of Oklahoma artists who took a new look at creative expression and progressive politics in the wake of World War II. The use of different materials, textures, surfaces and unconventional elements will be represented through painting, printmaking and sculpture. The exhibit features artwork by Ina Annette, T. C. Cannon, Allan Houser, Willard Stone, Derald T. Swineford, Doel Reed and others.
The Museum of the Western Prairie is located at 1100 Memorial Drive in Altus. The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Museum of the Western Prairie is a division of the Oklahoma Historical Society. The mission of the Oklahoma Historical Society is to collect, preserve and share the history and culture of the state of Oklahoma and its people. Founded in 1893 by members of the Territorial Press Association, the OHS maintains museums, historic sites and affiliates across the state.
