Learn about World War I at George M. Murrell Home in Park Hill
PARK HILL, Okla. — The George Murrell Home in Park Hill is commemorating the United States’s involvement in World War I during the month of November. Exhibits in the home will highlight the service of Murrell and Ross family members Ann Ross Piburn, Brigadier General George Murrell Alexander. Piburn was the granddaughter of Chief John Ross, and Alexander was the grandson of Amanda and George Murrell.
The home’s Third Saturday event on November 18 from 1 to 4 p.m. will be poppy making. John McCrae’s poem “In Flanders Fields” popularized the image of the poppy as a symbol of the victims of World War I.

The George M. Murrell Home is a division of the Oklahoma Historical Society.
