Don Blanding Exhibit at Chisholm Trail Museum in Kingfisher
KINGFISHER, Okla. — The Chisholm Trail Museum is opening a temporary exhibit about local artist, author and potter Don Blanding on Saturday, March 10, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Blanding was born in Kingfisher, Okla., in 1894 and through his travels made his home in Hawaii where he wrote articles for a local newspaper. He became so popular that he wrote and illustrated his own poetry books, and he is often credited with starting the tradition of Lei Day. This exhibit will highlight the art and life of Don Blanding through artifacts, bright artwork, dramatic poetry readings and interactive activities.
The Chisholm Trail Museum is located at 605 Zellers Ave. in Kingfisher, Okla. Hours of operation are Tuesday–Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors over 60, $3 for students and military and kids under 5 years old are free.
The Chisholm Trail Museum is an affiliate of the Oklahoma Historical Society. The mission of the Oklahoma Historical Society is to collect, preserve and share the history and culture of the state of Oklahoma and its people. Founded in 1893 by members of the Territorial Press Association, the OHS maintains museums, historic sites and affiliates across the state.
