Oklahoma Genealogical Society and Oklahoma Historical Society Partner to Host Genealogical Workshop
OKLAHOMA CITY — The Oklahoma Genealogical Society (OGS), in partnership with the Oklahoma Historical Society, will host the Summer Sizzler Genealogy Workshop Friday, July 20, and Saturday, July 21, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Oklahoma History Center. “Finding Your Ancestors Through Land Records” is the theme for this year’s workshop.
“Land records are the earliest, largest and most complete type of record in the United States, beginning when the colonists settled the land to show legal proof of ownership. Before 1850 as many as 90 percent of men owned land, making the possibility of finding an ancestor in land records very high,” said Mike Birdsong, OGS board president.
“The 2018 Summer Sizzler will help you identify the different types of land records available for your genealogy research,” Birdsong continued. “For a fun and interesting twist, the 2018 Summer Sizzler also will have living history presentations as a different way to learn about the experiences of your ancestors. The Oklahoma Genealogical Society is proud and honored to partner with the Oklahoma Historical Society Research Center for this outstanding two-day conference.”
Early bird registration is $50 for both days or $40 for one day and ends at midnight on Friday, July 6. Regular registration is $60 for both days or $50 for one day. Lunch is included in the conference price. Doors will open at 9:30 a.m. both days, and attendees will have the chance to win door prizes and visit the Research Center Book Sale during breaks. A complete schedule and online registration are available at www.okgensoc.org.
