Barn Quilt Workshop at Chisholm Trail Museum
KINGFISHER, Okla. — The Chisholm Trail Museum in Kingfisher will host a Barn Quilt workshop on Saturday, April 6, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Barn quilts, which are square-shaped boards painted to resemble a quilt block and are placed on any structure, have evolved into a rural development initiative to boost tourism in communities.
Through the development and promotion of barn quilt trails, tourists are encouraged to visit and explore all that rural communities have to offer. The creation of barn quilts in communities are effective in building community pride, celebrating community heritage, increasing interest in art and history and teaching skills that combine science, math and design. OSU Extension educator Lynda Latta is leading the way in establishing Oklahoma barn quilt trails. Plan to attend the Barn Quilt workshop and become a part of the “Clothesline of Quilts.” Each participant will complete their very own barn quilt to proudly display at home.

The Chisholm Trail Museum is located at 605 Zellers Ave. in Kingfisher. The museum’s regular hours of operation are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors ages 60 and older, $3 for children ages 6 to 18, and free for children 5 and under, and includes admission to the A. J. Seay Mansion.
The Chisholm Trail Museum is an affiliate of the Oklahoma Historical Society. The mission of the Oklahoma Historical Society is to collect, preserve and share the history and culture of the state of Oklahoma and its people. Founded in 1893 by members of the Territorial Press Association, the OHS maintains museums, historic sites and affiliates across the state.
