Barn Quilt Workshop at Chisholm Trail Museum
KINGFISHER, Okla. — The Chisholm Trail Museum in Kingfisher will host a Barn Quilt workshop on Saturday, April 6, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Barn quilts, which are square-shaped boards painted to resemble a quilt block and are placed on any structure, have evolved into a rural development initiative to boost tourism in communities.
Through the development and promotion of barn quilt trails, tourists are encouraged to visit and explore all that rural communities have to offer. The creation of barn quilts in communities are effective in building community pride, celebrating community heritage, increasing interest in art and history and teaching skills that combine science, math and design. OSU Extension educator Lynda Latta is leading the way in establishing Oklahoma barn quilt trails. Plan to attend the Barn Quilt workshop and become a part of the “Clothesline of Quilts.” Each participant will complete their very own barn quilt to proudly display at home.
The cost of the workshop is $15, and lunch is included. Payment must be received to secure registration. Registration is limited to 20 participants. For more information about the Barn Quilt workshop or the Chisholm Trail Museum, please call 405-375-5176 or visit www.ctokmuseum.org.
