Oklahoma Archeological Survey to Hold Workshop at Overholser Mansion

OKLAHOMA CITY — On Saturday, May 18, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Oklahoma Archeological Survey (OAS) will host a public workshop at the Overholser Mansion in Oklahoma City. This free workshop will contain activities for all ages, including a simulated archaeological dig, hands-on activities with Oklahoma artifacts and a chance for children to try reconstructing pottery. Staff members from OAS will be available to identify artifacts brought in by the public, and to give brief presentations on precontact Oklahoma and what someone should do if they find an archaeological site.

In addition to the workshop, Preservation Oklahoma, Inc., will be displaying its 2019 Most Endangered Places traveling exhibit. This annual list of historic properties serves to spread awareness and will travel throughout the state to continue the discussion of preserving historical buildings.

The program is funded in part by Oklahoma Humanities (OH) and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH). Any views, findings, conclusions or recommendations expressed do not necessarily represent those of OH or NEH.

For more information, please contact Cayla Lewis at 405-525-5325 or director@preservationok.org. The Overholser Mansion is located at 405 NW 15th St. in Oklahoma City.
