“Christmas at the Fort: 19th-Century Traditions” program
Fort Towson Historic Site will host Christmas at the Fort on Saturday, December 14, from 1-3 p.m. The theme for 2024 is “19th-Century Traditions.” Guests can learn about 19th-century traditions and meet a soldier in an 1860s military camp anxiously waiting to receive packages from home. A living history interpretation will depict some of the long-lasting Christmas traditions that continue to be practiced today and others that have been long forgotten. Living History Education Day
On Thursday, March 6, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the site will bring history to life with Living History Education Day—a free event! Living historians will demonstrate historical skills and educate guests while wearing period clothing, teaching guests what life was like at Fort Towson more than 180 years ago. Cinnamon Roll Social
The Fort Towson Historic Site will host a Cinnamon Roll Social on Saturday, September 27, from 10 a.m. to noon. The event is free, and everyone is invited. Guests will enjoy cinnamon rolls cooked on-site in cast iron Dutch ovens under the cooling shade of walnut trees. Doaksville Candlelight Tours
The annual Doaksville Candlelight Tours will be held on Friday, October 10, and Saturday, October 11, at the Doaksville Archaeological Site in Fort Towson. The cost for admission is $10.
