The Will Rogers Memorial Museum (WRMM) and Birthplace Ranch will celebrate the 143rd birthday of Oklahoma’s Favorite Son with the Will Rogers Motion Picture Festival. From November 2 through 5, four days of activities will be held to honor the memory of the Cherokee cowboy, philosopher, and movie actor who had starred in 50 silent movies and 21 talkies by the time of his death on August 15, 1935, in an Alaska airplane crash.
Beginning November 2, the Will Rogers Motion Picture Festival will feature up-and-coming filmmakers exhibiting their work at venues throughout Claremore, along with lectures, workshops, and receptions. Free showings of films featuring Rogers will take place at Will Rogers Theatre, located inside the Will Rogers Memorial Museum (WRMM).
Admission to the museum will be free and open to the public on November 4 to celebrate Rogers’ birthday.
At 10 a.m. on November 5, the Pocahontas Club will perform its traditional wreath-laying ceremony at the grave of Will Rogers at the WRMM.
The multi-day event will wrap up on November 5, when organizers honor the motion picture festival’s top filmmakers at the Dog Iron Awards Ceremony.
