A. Day’s Work art exhibit opens
April 8, 2023
Event Navigation
On Saturday, April 8, the Oklahoma Territorial Museum and Carnegie Library in Guthrie will open an art exhibit entitled A. Day’s Work. It will feature pieces from Oklahoma-based mixed media artist Andrea Day. An opening celebration will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, April 8.
Artist’s Statement: “Oklahoma-based Mixed Media Artist and citizen of Muscogee (Creek) Nation, Andrea Day is traditional “Mvskoke gone MODERN” with a New York City twist. After more than a decade of performing music on the world stage, Andrea returned to Oklahoma where she focuses full time on the development of her medium, acrylic, and beadwork on canvas, and creating new work. Her original designs, achieved in the form of acrylic and hand-sewn seed beads on canvas, are heavily influenced by her Mvskoke (Creek) Nation culture and language, Fuswalgi (Bird Clan), and ancient Southeastern Woodland designs, all while guided by nature. Inspiration for her work comes from her life and collaborations in NYC, cultural preservation for future generations, as well as the propensity to always be creating something new, interesting, and relevant.”
The exhibit will run through Wednesday, May 31. All art will be available to purchase.
The Oklahoma Territorial Museum is located at 406 E. Oklahoma Ave. in Guthrie. For more information, please call 405-282-1889.
