June 29, 2017
Event Navigation
Join the Museum of the Western Prairie for the grand opening of the newly renovated Museum courtyard and hear fiddler extraordinaire Kyle Dillingham celebrate the Grand Ole Opry, the radio show that forever cemented country music’s role in American culture. The opening will be held Thursday, June 29, 2017. The courtyard will open at 6:30 pm.
Visitors will also enjoy a companion exhibition that documents the radio show known as the “home of American music.” Gordon Gillingham’s photographs of Minnie Pearl, Chet Atkins, and Patsy Cline demonstrate the carousing spirit of the performances, while pictures of June Carter, Johnny Cash, and Roy Rogers interacting with their fans offer a backdoor perspective of the Opry. The exhibition is toured by ExhibitsUSA, a national program of Mid-America Arts Alliance. The evening will be hosted by the Western Trail Historical Society.
