Bus Tour to Ft. Scott, Kansas

The Friends of the Murrell Home will host its annual field trip on April 12, 2014, to Fort Scott, Kansas. A chartered bus tour will explore some of the important sites related to the Murrell Home and the Civil War history in the Cherokee Nation. Fort Scott is a National Historic Site located in downtown Ft. Scott and is a three hour bus ride from Park Hill. On the return trip, the bus will stop at the Baxter Springs Heritage Center and Museum. Baxter Springs is the site where the Ft. Blair massacre of Union soldiers by Quantrill’s Raiders occurred.
The tour departs promptly at 8 a.m. from the George M. Murrell Home in Park Hill and will return approximately 8:30 p.m. Cost for the program is $35 per person and includes admission to the historic sites and museums. Information packets will be provided. The bus will also pick up participants from the Tulsa and Claremore areas about 8:35 a.m. at McDonald’s in Chouteau. Advanced reservations are required. All sales are final, but tickets are transferable. The Murrell Home is located 3 miles south of Tahlequah at 19479 E. Murrell Home Rd. in Park Hill.
