Murrell Home Living History Education Day

The George M. Murrell Home Historic Site, just south of Tahlequah, will host its 6th Annual Living History Education Day on Friday, May 6, 2016. Public, private, and homeschool students, ages K-12, are invited to attend the program. Living history interpreters will demonstrate a variety of nineteenth century activities, ranging from animal husbandry to games to gardening.
The Murrell Home was built in 1845 for the niece of Cherokee Principal Chief John Ross and is the only remaining antebellum plantation in Oklahoma. The Living History Education Day is the only event in the state specializing in educating students about life in the antebellum Cherokee Nation. In addition to hands-on living history stations, guests will be able to tour the mansion and learn about the functions of its outbuildings, as well as George Murrell’s mercantile store.
The cost of the program is $2.00 per student. Teachers and adult chaperones are free. Classes may pick either the 9:30-11:30am session or the 11:30am-1:30pm session. Teachers who wish to register their class for the event may contact the Murrell Home at 918-456-2751.
