“Life on the Water” living history program

Fort Towson Historic Site will host “Life on the Water” on Saturday, January 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This living history program will be held in conjunction with the special exhibit Water/Ways, which will be on display at the Fort Towson Historic Site through February 8. Water/Ways is part of Museum on Main Street, a collaboration between the Smithsonian Institution and Oklahoma Humanities. Visitors will learn about the importance of water and the vital role it has played in society—both past and present.
“Life on the Water” will feature six educational stations: Commerce, Music, Food, Women, Navigation, and Excavations. Visitors can enjoy hands-on experiences related to various aspects of life on a steamboat in the 19th century. Fort Towson Historic Site is located approximately 14 miles east of Hugo on US Highway 70 near Fort Towson. For more information, please call 580-873-2634.
