December 10, 2022, 10 a.m.–3 p.m.
Event Navigation
The Sod House Museum’s Christmas Open House will be held on Saturday, December 10, from 1–3 p.m. Enjoy the holidays in Oklahoma’s only remaining sod house that will be decorated for the season in the style of a traditional 1890s Pioneer Christmas.
The beautiful sound of the dulcimer will be showcased in traditional songs during the open house. Traditional holiday music will be performed by area musicians and stringed groups including Silver Strings, a mountain dulcimer group, and hammered dulcimer musician Margaret Goss. Goss began playing about thirteen years ago and plays a variety of instruments, including bowed psalteries, autoharp, and mountain dulcimer.
This year, the Friends of the Sod House will have a nine-patch quilt that will be given away in a raffle at the open house. Cookies and hot cider will be provided at the event by the Friends of the Sod House.
The Christmas Open House is a “thank you” for the continued support of the museum. Operated by the Oklahoma Historical Society, the museum is located southeast of Aline on State Highway 8. The museum is open Tuesday–Saturday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m.
