December 9, 2019
Event Navigation
On Monday, December 9, Governor Kevin Stitt, First Lady Sarah Stitt, and State Superintendent of Public Instruction Joy Hofmeister will welcome students from 25 schools across Oklahoma to attend the Governor’s Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. This year, the event will take place at the Oklahoma History Center beginning at 1 p.m.
Each participating class will choose a theme and decorate an indoor, four-foot-tall Christmas tree with ornaments based on that theme. The Stitts and Hofmeister will be on hand for pictures with the students. Student performing groups will provide musical entertainment throughout the afternoon, leading up to the lighting of the outdoor Capitol Christmas Tree on the grounds of the Oklahoma History Center. The public is invited to celebrate the season at the annual tree lighting, which will begin at 5:30 p.m. The Governor’s Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony is sponsored by the Office of the Governor, the State Department of Education, and the Oklahoma Arts Council.
