Concert: Bob Wills. Inspiration & Influence – Roots Music & Red Dirt

Join us for a special concert featuring Oklahoma musicians performing Roots Music, the music of Bob Wills, and Red Dirt Music.
Byron Berline (Guthrie), The Red Dirt Rangers (Lone Chimney), Dr. Harold Aldridge (Taft), Monica Taylor (Stillwater), and Bonita Franklin (Langston) will perform during a special concert sponsored by OKPOP and the Oklahoma Historical Society on the evening of Thursday, April 24, in Stillwater at the Winfrey D. Houston Theater. The theater is located at 315 West 8th Street inside the Stillwater Community Center. This event is in conjunction with the 2014 Oklahoma History Conference.
The general public is invited to purchase tickets for the concert at $15 each. All tickets will be general admission. Tickets may be obtained online at Tickets.Stillwater.org, by phoning 405-533-8433, or at the box office at the Stillwater Community Center.
Dr. Hugh Foley will serve as Master of Ceremonies for the evening of regional Roots Music that would have influenced Bob Wills. This includes Gospel, Blues, Fiddle, Cowboy, Jazz, and Folk music, all performed by outstanding Oklahoma musicians. The last portion will highlight how Bob Wills influenced today’s Red Dirt movement. Doors will open at 7pm and the concert begins at 7:30pm.
