The OKPOP Museum and the estate of late musician JJ Cale are planning a series of special events at Circle Cinema celebrating the official release date of Cale’s new album Stay Around.
The posthumous collection of unreleased material is the first new Cale album in over a decade. Compiled by his widow, musician Christine Lakeland Cale, and his friend and longtime manager, Mike Kappus, Stay Around is set for an April 26 release via Because Music.
Events surrounding the album release will include a gallery exhibit at Circle Cinema during Kendall Whittier’s second Thursday, April 11, 2019, from 6 to 8 p.m. The event will include a Cale-inspired DJ set by DJ Spencer LG. It will be free and open to the public.
On Friday, April 26, 2019, OKPOP will celebrate the official release of Stay Around with a reception featuring a photo exhibit and special guests from 6 to 7 p.m., followed by a screening of the 2005 film To Tulsa and Back and the premiere of new music videos from Stay Around. Tickets are available through Circle Cinema. All screening tickets will include a CD ($25) or a vinyl album ($40).
