May Day Celebration, Murrell Home

The George M. Murrell Home Historic Site will host its annual May Day Celebration on Saturday, May 7, 2016. A celebration of the beginning of the growing season on the 19th-century plantation, the event will feature entertainment, food and living history demonstrations. Activities will begin at 10 a.m. and continue until 4 p.m. Music, lawn games and hands-on programs about 19th-century life will fill the historic site. Guests will be able to participate in a maypole to conclude the event. The historic home and outbuildings also will be open for tours. Guests are invited to bring lawn chairs and picnic lunches. Refreshments will be available. The event is free and open to the public.
The George M. Murrell Home Historic Site is located at 19479 E. Murrell Home Rd. in Park Hill, three miles south of Tahlequah. Originally the home of the niece of Cherokee Principal Chief John Ross, the Greek Revival mansion was built in 1845 and is the only remaining antebellum plantation in Oklahoma.
