Oklahoma Sports Heroes exhibit opens

December 12

Event Navigation

Oklahoma Sports Heroes, an exhibit that highlights the lives of legendary Oklahoma athletes, will open at the Oklahoma History Center Museum on Thursday, December 12.

The exhibit will highlight various types of sports and connect them to the historical times and events in which they competed and lived. The exhibit will spotlight many sports categories.

Some well-known Oklahoma sports heroes, such as Jim Thorpe and Mickey Mantle, are known to the nation. In contrast, others, like Kaleo Kanahele Maclay and Noah Zuhdi, succeeded without significant attention. Museum visitors will recognize well-known sports icons as old favorites and learn more about lesser-known athletes from Oklahoma.

The new exhibit will also feature items recently added to the Oklahoma Historical Society’s collections thanks to a donation from Richard Hendricks and the Oklahoma Sports Heritage Museum in Guthrie.

The OHCM is indebted to the Zuhdi family and the Oklahoma sports history community for their support in developing this new exhibit.
