Event Navigation

The Museum of the Western Prairie in Altus is pleased to present a new exhibit, Oklahoma’s Vernacular Architecture from the Easel of John Womack, opening with a premiere program on Thursday, June 7. The gallery opens at 6:30 p.m. and the program begins at 7 pm. This event is free and open to the public. The exhibition will be in the First Gallery of the Museum of the Western Prairie during June and July.

Since his retirement as a professor in the School of Architecture at Oklahoma State University, John Womack has devoted his talents to creating intriguing images of vernacular structures across Oklahoma. The exhibition will feature these newer pieces along with pen-and-ink drawings from a Route 66 series he created in celebration of Oklahoma’s centennial. This event is hosted by the Western Trail Historical Society.
