Christmas Open House and live Southern Gospel music by Gary Booze *rescheduled*, Sod House Museum
December 15, 2018, 1 p.m.–3 p.m.
Event Navigation
Celebrate Christmas the pioneer way at the Sod House Museum’s Christmas Open House on Saturday, December 15, from 1 to 3 pm. Share in the festivities with songs, traditional decorations, and treats provided by the Friends of the Sod House. Gary Booze of Aline will share Christmas and southern gospel music during the event.
Southern gospel music has been around for many years, it began as a blend of early mountain music, cowboy music, and music from plantations of the Deep South. These songs were written to express personal or communal faith and to relate biblical teachings to everyday life.
The museum will be decorated for Christmas, while the Sod House itself will be decorated for a traditional 1890s pioneer Christmas. Enjoy cookies and hot cider provided by the Friends of the Sod House. The Friends also will sponsor a drawing for a quilt during the Open House.
The Christmas Open House is the museum’s “thank you” to the community for its continued support of the museum. The Sod House Museum is located southeast of Aline on State Highway 8 and open Tuesday through Saturday, 9 am to 5 pm.
