Visit Fort Towson Historic Site on Saturday, July 9, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. for exciting Shake/Shingle Splitting demonstrations. Grab your gloves and come on down to share in the experience! Staff and volunteers at Fort Towson will be demonstrating a “make your own shake”…wooden, that is.
From the types of wood selected to the intended use, attendees can learn step-by-step techniques used by homesteaders heading West. All in attendance are encouraged to grab a froe and try their hand at it. Donations of the hand split shakes are welcome for future projects planned at Fort Towson Historic Site.
