Sherwood Forest (2022) documentary
December 29, 2022, 7 p.m.
Event Navigation
The documentary Sherwood Forest (2022) by the late Academy Award-winning producer Gray Fredrickson will air on OETA on Thursday, December 29, at 7 p.m. The documentary follows the story of Samuel Lloyd Noble and a number of American roughnecks who carried out a lengthy top-secret mission to solve the problem of oil shortages in World War II. From March 1943 to March 1944, Noble and his crews drilled 106 wells in one year in a small oil field in Sherwood Forest, Nottingham, England. Their herculean efforts resulted in a yield of 3,520,553 barrels of oil, which helped to fuel the Invasion of D-Day, and turn the tide on Hitler’s campaign.
The production was made possible by the Oklahoma History Center and Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation, OERB, James Day, and others.
