“Something to Grow About:” Earth Day Activities

April 19, 11 a.m.3 p.m.

Event Navigation

The Pawnee Bill Ranch and Museum will host a seed swap along with other family-friendly activities on Saturday, April 19, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to celebrate Earth Day on April 22. “Something to Grow About” will feature a native plant/seed exchange, interactive gardening workshops, and more.

Guests can bring labeled seeds and plants for the swap. They will learn about and take home native pollinator plants and seeds. Other workshops and demonstrations will teach attendees about planting, composting, recycling, soil, water, insects, and birds. There will also be hands-on activities for kids.

The Pawnee Farmers Market and local food trucks will be set up by the picnic area. Guests are also welcome to bring their own picnic lunch and use the facilities on the property.

While at Pawnee Bill Ranch and Museum for the event, visitors are encouraged to see the rest of the 500-acre grounds that include Pawnee Bill and his wife May’s 14-room mansion, the original ranch blacksmith shop, a 1903 log cabin, a large barn built in 1926, picnic tables and a fishing pond for kids. Guests can also drive through the pasture that’s home to dozens of bison and longhorns.

“Something to Grow About” is free and open to the public, but guests must pay admission to tour the mansion. The event will take place after the annual Easter egg hunt at the ranch, which starts at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 19. Thousands of eggs will be hidden across the site. Everyone is welcome to attend this egg hunt, which was started more than 100 years ago by Pawnee Bill himself.

“Something to Grow About” is sponsored by the Friends of the Pawnee Bill Ranch Association, Gardens on Blue Hawk Peak, Oklahoma Historical Society, Pawnee Nation College and Ag Department, the city of Pawnee and the Grand River Dam Authority.
