Event Navigation
The Sod House Museum will host a talk on the history of the Oklahoma Poets Laureate on April 16, 2016, at 10:00 am.
The talk will be given by Dr. Shawn Holliday, the Associate Dean of Graduate Studies and Professor of English at Northwestern Oklahoma State University, whose book The Oklahoma Poets Laureate: A Sourcebook, History, and Anthology was recently published by Mongrel Empire Press in Norman. Holliday intends to use his talk to inform citizens about the history of the Oklahoma poets laureate, including its most important figures and best poets. He also hopes the talk will help preserve regional history and local memory by talking about many authors whose books have been long out of print. Holliday will have copies of his $18 book for sale and will gladly sign copies after his talk.
The program will include a brief history of the Oklahoma poet laureate position, a discussion of its most important poets, and a brief reading of some of their work.
For more information on Holliday’s talk contact Dr. Holliday at (580) 327-8589 spholliday@nwosu.edu, or Renee Trindle at the Sod House Museum at (580) 463-2441 sodhouse@okhistory.org.
