Oklahoma Landscapes: Watercolors by Derald Swineford premiere program
The Museum of the Western Prairie in Altus opened a new exhibit on July 2 titled Oklahoma Landscapes: Watercolors by Derald Swineford. A premiere program for the exhibit will be held on Thursday, August 15, at 7 p.m., and the exhibit will run until September 28. The Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center’s special exhibit titled Sign of the Times: The Great American Political Poster, 1844–2012 will be available to visitors through Friday, August 16. This traveling exhibit from ExhibitsUSA features an array of historic political posters. Sign of the Times is on display May 15 through August 16. The Fred Drummond Home in Hominy will feature a Vintage Snack Sets exhibit throughout the month of August. During the 1940s, ’50s, ’60s, and ’70s, women were expected to entertain at home by hosting teas, coffees, or church socials. Often they would use pretty snack sets that included a plate with a round indention to hold the matching cup. The Chisholm Trail Museum in Kingfisher will host a traveling exhibit of photography by Lewis Hine from September 3 through November 22. The Oklahoma History Center's exhibition entitled, Unsolved History: Forensic Science, Cold Cases, and Art Therapy will close on Monday, September 30. This exhibit is comprised of 11 artistic creations by Oklahoma-based artists and art therapists who work with the families of victims in cold case crimes. Pawnee Bill Ranch and Museum is proud to host its Annual Quilt Show during the entire month of October. The beautiful works of art on display include both heirloom quilts and modern quilts. On November 5, 2018, the Oklahoma History Center opened a photographic exhibit celebrating the 100th anniversary of women gaining the right to vote in Oklahoma. Votes for Women features twenty-eight black-and-white photographs from the Oklahoma Historical Society's photograph archives and the Library of Congress highlighting some of the key moments and events, and the people who fearlessly led the way.
