George Lee Parmley

Born in Linn Creek, Missouri, February 8, 1912, George moved to the community of Norfolk, Oklahoma, at age five. Following graduation from Yale High School in 1930, he was employed at the Barnsdall Post Office. While in Barnsdall, he married Dracine Beck, a native Oklahoman and registered member of the Cherokee Nation. After moving to Arkansas City, Kansas, he continued working for the post office, retiring as Superintendent of Mails after 42 years of service. George and Dracine lived in Arkansas City until their deaths in 2006. Although they never returned to Oklahoma to live, their hearts remained. My father used to say, "There's just something about an Okie." Having been reared by two of the best, I concur.
