James Robert and Arminta Tettleton
Submitted by Grace Vance
James (Jim) Robert Tettleton, born in 1866 in White Co, Tennessee, and Arminta (Minty) Bradley also born in White Co, Tennessee, in 1868 migrated with their families about 1890 to Grayson Co, Texas, where James and Minty married. They had ten children, six born in Texas. In 1901, they crossed the Red River and settled on a homestead in the "new country" opened for settlement. The farm was located in Comanche, Hulen Township, Oklahoma Territory, which became Cotton Co. in the community of Baird 12 miles west of Duncan, Oklahoma. Four more children were born in Oklahoma and with the help of the ten children, James farmed until his death in 1928. He acquired more land until he owned 600 acres west of Duncan and 400 acres west of Edmond in the Deer Creek area.
