Charlie Austin Wilson
Submitted by Jessie (son of Charlie) and Hilda Wilson
Charlie Austin Wilson (1905–1994) was born in Beckham Co., Oklahoma, to Benjamin and Sally Wilson, who homesteaded when Oklahoma was Indian Territory. Charlie and his family, which included 3three siblings, lived in a half dugout until a house could be built. Their living was made by raising cotton, broomcorn for making brooms, and harvesting honey from raising bees. These brooms and also honey were sold in Elk City. The broom-making machine is now in the Museum in Elk City on Old Route 66.
