The Hummels found success in the oil and gas industry in Oklahoma. While Spence was the drilling manager for Service Drilling, the company donated a rig to the Oklahoma History Center. Spence was the individual that coordinated with the Oklahoma History Center to place the rig at its current location. Spence was the one who raised the derrick at its present location at the Oklahoma History Center. After Spence's success with Service Drilling, he co-founded Big A Drilling. Big A Drilling found much success in Oklahoma. Spence and Janet Hummel were proud to be business owners in Oklahoma and feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to employ so many Oklahomans.
