Thomas Victor Dollarhide, born 1861, son of James Samples Dollarhide, a signer for Arkansas secession, and Susan Houston Millwee (Susie), a slave, at Rocky Comfort, Parra Clifta, Arkansas. In 1900, Thomas married Daisy Williams. They lived and are buried in Earlsboro, Oklahoma. Their son, Douglas Fairbanks Dollarhide, inspired by his elder brother, Emmitt, and sister, Lenora, became the "first elected African American mayor west of the Mississippi" for the city of Compton, California, in 1969. Emmitt Dollarhide, had been the first NAACP president of San Jose, California, in 1947. In 1972 Emmitt moved back to Oklahoma City and joined Clara Luper's local civil rights movement. Thomas and Daisy were my grandparents and Lenora Dollarhide Stubbs my mother.
