F.M. & Amelia Tolbert

Frances Marion Tolbert (1855-1942) of Belmont County, Ohio, and Amelia Schwarberg (1863-1934) married 1870 in Wayne County, Illinois, where she was born. Family came to Oklahoma Territory from Kansas shortly after Run of 1889 with four children and all they owned in a wagon. Homesteaded 160 acres in Canadian County. Spent first winter living in a tent. In spring built a house out of sawn cottonwood logs. By fall, even though crops were bad, he and others had built a sod schoolhouse. Once proved up, this farm was sold and a better one purchased north of El Reno. Buried in Pauls Valley.
Children: Isaac, Ida May, William Roy, Frank, Ellen, Elizabeth and Clifford Tolbert, all of whom became upstanding citizens, and Carl who died in infancy.
