Don Garrison was born in Hendrix, Oklahoma, on May 18, 1943. He spent his early years in life in Hendrix and later years at Finley. He attended high school at Antlers and college at Southeastern in Durant, earning a degree in education. His first teaching job was at Nashoba High, Nashoba, which began a career that spanned 40 years. His last job was at Terral as superintendent, retiring in 2006. All of his teaching was done in Oklahoma with jobs in Fort Towson, Springer, Achille, Dougherty, and Tuskahoma. His greatest decision was when he accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior in 1985.
