Judge Frank Dale

Judge Frank Dale, born in 1849 in DeKalb, IL, son of Frank Dale and Maria Webster, made the Land Run of 1889 by train from Wichita, KS to Guthrie. He and his wife, Martha Wood, built a beautiful home in Guthrie. He served as Chief Justice of the Territorial Supreme Court and concurrently as US District Judge from 1893-1898, appointed to both by President Grover Cleveland. After retiring from the bench, he practiced law in Guthrie. He had many business interests; banking, railroads, newspapers, oil and gas. He was also a philanthropist who donated generously. He was a candidate for Democrat nomination for first governor of OK. He played a major role in the development of Oklahoma Territory and the state of Oklahoma until his death in Guthrie in 1930.
