George is the son of George W. and Ruby East Thompson; Nona is the daughter of Raymond and Carrie Williams Dugger. George was born in Seminole and grew up in Wewoka. Nona grew up in Hartshorne. They met at church camp and were married in 1959 in Haileyville. George was a geologist and Nona a church business administrator. They had daughters, Lisa (died at birth), Valerie, Cheryl, and Amber. They now have ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
George and Nona are very active in New Covenant Christian Church, Sons of the American Revolution, Children of the American Revolution, Daughters of the American Revolution and several genealogy societies.
