Seventy-five years ago the predecessor organization to what is now "Oklahoma Home and Community Education" was formed as "Future Home Makers" under the auspices of the state land grant college (now OSU Extension). The basic mission of the organization continues to be education and community service. In the early years the organization provided education concerning home making subjects - food preservation, food preparation, family and home care, etc. Over the years the program has changed to subjects of interest to men and women with home and community responsibilities. Brick 127 was given in recognition of the establishment of the OHCE Bits & Bytes group which was formed January 1, 2000 to conduct classes in "basic computer use."
