Administrative Information
The Currie Ballard Collection was created by Currie Ballard, a collector of African American historical items. The collection consists of letters, commission records, and ephemera with a date range of 1887 to 2006. The collection is composed primarily of original documents. Some of the early tax records and Freemason records are in poor condition.
The strength of the collection is found in the breadth of material. The collection consists of but is not limited to: Prince Hall F. & A. M. Guthrie Alpha 1 Lodge papers, Langston University papers, V-Mail from World War II, early Taft, Red Bird and Boley (African American Towns in Oklahoma) papers, School Records, Tax Records, Obsequies, WPA Federal Music Projects, Tulsa Race Riot Report, reports from the Presidential Commission for the National Museum of the African American History Center, and a collection of original concert posters from various African American bands.

Alpha 1 Lodge was the first Prince Hall Free and Accepted Mason (F. & A.M.) lodge in the State of Oklahoma. This box contains original letters between members, officiers, lodges, and others. This set of documents was kept for the lodge by Foursee C. Brooks; a member and at times officer of the Alpha 1 lodge.
